Welcome!
The Appalachian Wordsmiths are a group of writers who meet weekly in Ripley, West Virginia. We have authors who specialize in fantasy, sci-fi, adventure, children’s books, and folklore. We have poets, song writers, novelists, and our very own story teller. We are always looking for new members who can bring new perspectives to our group. We do our best to provide valuable constructive criticism and support for all of our members, and we’d love to have you!
Meetings generally begin at 6:00 PM on Thursdays. We discuss upcoming events, contests, and any issues or questions that members may have. Then we take turns reading and critiquing each other’s work. You don’t have to read your work if you don’t want to. That’s perfectly fine with us, but if you do decide to read, please bring at least ten copies.

We normally meet at the Cornerstone Coffee Shop in Ripley, West Virginia. We’ve provided a map to the coffee shop, but if you plan to attend, please check this site first because our meeting schedule is not as standardized as it used to be. With summer events, family functions, and high gas prices all thrown into the mix, we vote to cancel meetings some weeks when few of us can attend. If the meeting is canceled, it will be posted at the top of this page.
